We’re big on showing appreciation here at CP Rankin, and we proudly support the annual weeklong celebration of the women who work in the predominately male-dominated construction industry. This year, Women in Construction Week (WIC) is taking place March 5th – 11th and aligns with Women’s History Month. WIC Week is both a celebration, as the number of women in the field continues to grow, as well as a networking opportunity for those interested in finding a new role within it. The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) has been hosting the week since 1998. CP Rankin: Women In Construction Week

Per the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), women made up roughly 10.9 percent (about 1,285,000 workers) of all construction industry employees in 2022. This number is just slightly below the 20-year high of 11 percent in 2021. From 2003 to 2018, women in construction failed to exceed roughly 9.85 percent of the entire workforce. In 2019, women were able to surpass 10 percent when they accounted for 1,168,000 of all the 11,373,000 workers. Every year since then, women have consistently made up more than 10 percent of the construction industry.

The US Construction Market is approximately $1.6 trillion per year which presents vast career opportunities for women to enter this industry and play key roles from Project Engineer to Superintendent to Architect or to starting a contracting company. This is especially true as the construction industry, commercial and government, grapples with a shortage of labor.

“We [Women] have the ability to multitask, process all the details and really execute. I’m biased, but I think female project managers are so good at that and so good at being able to balance all the personalities that might be in the room between the owner, architect and superintendent from the field. There’s plenty of room at the table for more female project managers,” said Heather Tankersley, co-founder of Tankersley Construction.

CP Rankin is truly excited to celebrate Women in Construction Week and we’re thankful for the women on our team and the women in neighboring industries. If you’re interested in employment with CP Rankin, please apply on our website or check out current openings.
